Anamosa State Penitentiary officer concussed by prisoner

A correctional officer at the Anamosa State Penitentiary received a concussion after being head-butted by an inmate Sunday evening.
According to a media release from the Iowa Department of Corrections the incident took place at 6:42 p.m. on Sunday.
The affected officer had been working with a team of officers when an inmate struck him in the face with his head, and then bit his forearm, according to the release. The inmate was restrained moments later.
The correctional officer was initially assessed by medical personnel on site, and then returned to complete his shift. However, he then began to experience concussion-like symptoms, according to the release, and as a result was taken to the emergency room at the Jones Regional Medical Center in Anamosa where a concussion was diagnosed.
The incident remains under investigation.
