Evelyn Lorrine Koeppel, 93, of Independence, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Buchanan County Long Term Care in Independence.
Evelyn was born Sept. 19, 1920, in Independence, the daughter of Otto C. and Matilda (Grimm) Barske. On July 12, 1952, Evelyn married Pete Koeppel at St. John the Evangelist Church in Independece. Evelyn worked many years as a secretary, including during World War II, when she worked for the Civil Service in Phoenix, Ariz. She retired from Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids after working there for more than 20 years.
She is survived by her daughter, Beverly; a sister-in-law, Alice Mishler; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete, in 1977; two sisters, Lavonne Smith and Dorothy Kramer; and an infant sister, Charlene.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, July 21, at Reiff Funeral Home & Crematory, Independence, with Sharon Bainbridge officiating. Inurnment: St. John's Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time Monday at the funeral home.
