Eugene "Bubsy" Strohman, 80, of Sigourney, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Keokuk County Health
Center in Sigourney.
Bubsy was born May 26, 1934, in Harper, to John J. and Marie (Hart) Strohman and graduated from Sigourney High School. On July 27, 1963, he married Virginia Pille in Des Moines. The couple lived and farmed in the Harper community for many years, until moving to Sigourney in 1991. Bubsy retired from farming in 2000.
He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the Sigourney Lions Club. He was a past member of the Cattlemen's Association, Pork Producers and F.H.A. board. Bubsy also served on the Keokuk County State Bank board of directors. He enjoyed restoring John Deere tractors, ice cream, farming, his family, traveling and going to coffee.
Survivors include his wife, Ginny of Sigourney; three daughters, Christine (Scott) DeVries of Maitland, Fla., Julie (John) Bradley of Palo and Mary (Tom) Kelly of Johnston; six grandchildren, Benjamin, Joseph and Nathan DeVries and Alma, Evan and Anabel Bradley; and two sisters, Theresa Adam of Fairfield and Betty Sobaski of
Iowa City.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Strohman.
Funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sigourney, with the Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Powell Funeral Home in Sigourney, where there will be a wake service at 4 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for Keokuk County Hospice or St. Mary Catholic Church.
