Edward Bryant
EDWARD BRYANT Iowa City Edward "Ed" Joseph Bryant, 55, died of cancer on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at his home in Iowa City with his loving family and friends surrounding him. Funeral services will begin Friday at 11 a.m. at the Grace United Methodist Church in Tiffin. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Cosgrove. His family will greet friends at the church Friday from 9 a.m. until service time. Instead of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials to Iowa City Hospice or Reach for Your Potential. Ed was born Sept. 27, 1958, in Iowa City, the youngest child of Oscar and Helen (Meade) Bryant of Tiffin. He graduated from St. Coletta's School in Jefferson, Wis. While attending St. Coletta's, he worked at McDonald's and would frequent Knutson Jewelers where he was always greeted with a timely smile concerning his wristwatch. He was active in the school choir and enjoyed their Olympic-size swimming pool. He returned to Iowa in 2002 where he made his home with Reach for Your Potential on Tofting Circle in Iowa City. He very much enjoyed the friendships of his housemates, Chris, Paul and John. Over the past 30 years, he thoroughly enjoyed working at Slim's and Walker Welding in Tiffin and for Taco John's in Coralville. His longtime manager at Taco John's, Mitch Strang, nominated Ed for his years of service. As a result of this nomination, Ed received an Individual Achievement Award at the annual ceremony from Goodwill of the Heartland on May 8, 2009, which was a highlight of his life. Ed loved everything about the Iowa Hawkeyes, devoting endless hours watching games and keeping track of statistics about the football and basketball teams. He also loved the Cubs, the Green Bay Packers, strumming on his guitar, singing and listening to music on his headphones, especially John Denver, The Beach Boys and Johnny Cash. He is survived by six brothers and sisters, Barbara (Clarence) Stennes of Des Moines, Iowa, William (Sharon) Bryant of Oxford, Robert (Barb) Bryant of Coralville, Mary Lou Young of North Liberty, Gary (Deb) Bryant of Oxford and Elizabeth (Mike) Walker of North Liberty; 14 nieces and nephews, Tammie Ruth (Joe), Brenda Klemesrud (Rick), Cindy Frank (Troy), Chad Bryant, Troy Bryant (Jenny), Jeremy Bryant, Bryan Stennes, Janese Joecken (Chip), Erika Stennes, Jeanna Hegewald (John), Tyler Bryant (Vickie), Bailey Walker, Kate Walker and Nick Walker; nine great-nieces and nephews; amd seven great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by an aunt, Marguerite Stockman of Williamsburg; and many cousins and extended family. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Helen Bryant of Tiffin; and a brother-in-law, William R. Young. Thoughts may be shared with the family at www. lensingfuneral.com. The family is grateful to all of the staff of Reach for Your Potential for their loving care of Ed during the last 12 years.
