Alma A. Matthess, 92, of Fairfax, died Thursday, June 19, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar
Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, by the Rev. David Renfro. A visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her sons, Gerald Matthess of Orlando, Fla., and Gene Matthess of Fairfax; her twin sisters, Wilma Glandorf and Roma Glandorf, both of Williamsburg; two brothers-in-law, Walter Matthess of Lawrenceburg, Tenn., and Kenny Matthess of Milan, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Lawrence Matthess.
Alma was born July 7, 1921, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Rudolf and Lidia (Doehrmann) Glandorf. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Matthess. Alma worked and retired from Rockwell Collins. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She was a great cook and baker and was known as the "Cookie Lady." She had a great sense of humor and always had a smile.
She was a devoted wife, mother and sister. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
