Mark Anthony Van Slyke, 41, of Mount Vernon, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after an accident.
Mark was born June 27, 1973, to Edward and Colleen (Potter) Van Slyke in Cedar Rapids. He worked as a carpenter and sider for most of his life, and was most recently employed by Red Roof Siders in Iowa City.
He loved camping and spending time with his kids.
He was a loving son, brother and father, who will be dearly missed, and a beloved friend to many.
He is survived by his four children, Nathan Merrifield of Central City and Mercedes, Allison and Anthony Van Slyke, all of Cedar Rapids; his parents, Edward and Colleen Van Slyke of Mount Vernon; sister, Pam (Brett) Cavanaugh of Piedmont, Okla.; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins who will miss him very much.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Please join the family for a visitation at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids from 5 until 8 p.m. Friday, July 18. A celebration of Mark's life will be held at Bertram Hall at 1 p.m. Saturday.
