Antonia Helen "Toni" Formanek, 100, died Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, at Virginia Gay Nursing and Rehab in Vinton. Funeral Services: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the Phillips Funeral Home in Keystone with the Rev. Mark Leckband officiating. Interment: National Cemetery, Vining. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the
funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established.
Antonia Helen Kriva was born on Jan. 22, 1914, in Stara Mesto, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Vanek) Kriva Sr. On Sept. 22,
1934, she married
Lester Formanek in
Czechoslovakia.
The couple immigrated to the United States in 1937. They farmed in the Elberon area and also owned and operated Toni's Cafe and Les's tavern for many years. Following their retirement, they enjoyed wintering in Florida. Toni joined St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Garrison in 2009. She enjoyed baking, cooking, crafts, gardening and tending to her flowers. She and Lester enjoyed traveling and especially spending time with family.
She is survived by her son, Gene (Barbara) Formanek of Rotonda West, Fla.; three daughters, Roni Houser of Cedar Rapids, Dollie Barkdoll of Vinton and Geri Lattieri of Dandridge, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and their spouses; 28 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester in 1995; three grandchildren, Dori, Kari and Bobby; her brother, Joseph Kriva Jr.; her sister, Frances Houdek; and her nephew, Joseph Kriva III
