Robert Glenn Blin, 86, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, Cedar
Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Leslie; children, Mike Blin (Donna) of Marion, Pat Blin Crawford (George) of Milton and Bob Blin of Marion; three grandchildren, Chrystal Blin Jensen (Dane) of Sedalia, Mo., Ashley Blin Stronck (Scott) of Bellevue, Neb., and Andrew Blin of Cedar Rapids; and two great-grand-children, Natalie Stronck and Matthew Jensen.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert Glenn Blin was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Ridgeway, Mo., the only child of William and Veda Taylor Blin. Robert and Leslie Mathews were united in marriage on Sept. 16, 1951, in Bethany, Mo.
Robert served his country in the Army Air Force beginning in the 3704th AAF in 1946. He then joined the 1st Communications Squadron in the 5th Army Air Force and served over a year in Japan during the Occupation and Reconstruction of Japan. In 1947, he was honorably discharged as a corporal.
After returning home, Robert started a radio and TV repair shop in Ridgeway, Mo. In 1951, he moved to Marion and began working for Collins Radio. He retired Dec. 31, 1989, after 38 years.
He was a member of the Audubon Society and Cedar Valley Rocks and Minerals Society and was a 4-H club leader. He enjoyed square dancing, clog dancing, camping, fishing and hunting. He had a hobby shop of working on old radios in his basement. He collected, worked on and demonstrated the use of antique engines. He enjoyed visiting with old friends at Old Threshers Reunions throughout the Midwest.
Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.
