BARBARA SPALDING

Barbara R. (Knutson) Spalding, 73, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, March 9, 2014. Memorial services: June 7, 2014, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Inurnment: Oak Hill Cemetery in Lansing, Iowa. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Nyle A. Spalding; her children, Amy (Michael) McCormick and their children, Kelton and Finnegan McCormick, all of Boulder, Colo., and Sara A. (Daniel) Miller and their children, Ava and Max Miller, all of Oswego, Ill.; a sister, Helen (Norbert) Wurtzel of Eau Claire, Wis.; and sisters-in-law, Maxyne (Bob) Gillice of Arvada, Colo., and Paulette (Arnie) Clare of Lake City, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Barbara was born April 23, 1940, in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Alex and Margaret (Kehr) Knutson. She married Nyle A. Spalding on June 13, 1964, in Lansing, Iowa. Barbara was a first grade teacher. She graduated from Luther College with a bachelor's degree in elementary education and taught in Clear Lake, Ankeny and the Cedar Rapids School Systems.
She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and Retired Teachers Association. She loved reading, gardening, spending time with her family and she made the best cinnamon rolls in the world. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
