Miguel Alcaraz, 66, of Crossville, Tenn., formerly of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Standing Corner Care and Rehab Center, Crossville. Funeral Mass: 9 a.m. Friday, March 21, at Immaculate Conception Church, Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Christopher Podhajsky officiating. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Miguel was born March 15, 1947, in Los Fresno, Texas, to Jesus and Camila (Flores) Alcaraz. He was married to his wife, Juanita Rodriguez Alcaraz, for over 48 years. He was employed for most of his life as a mechanic and a janitor. Juanita and Miguel had been residents of Cedar Rapids until 2008, when they moved to Tennessee.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Miguel was a very talented mechanic who could fix anything at work or at home. He and Juanita loved to dance nearly every Saturday night at different venues in Cedar Rapids and the Quad Cities. He enjoyed watching movies, especially action adventures and cowboy films. He loved to go golfing at least once a week and enjoyed spending time with his family for their weekly Sunday afternoon cookouts at the park.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita; five children, Mary, Santiago, Dora, Danny and Elizabeth; 30 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Maria, Maria de la Luz and Teresa; and brothers, Antonio and David.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jesus Alcaraz; daughter, Gloria Wingerson; and brother, Jose Alcaraz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Miguel's name may be directed to the family.
