Josephine Elizabeth Jones Haines, 92, formerly of Marion, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at Northbrook Manor Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, March 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Troy Titus. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the funeral home. Private family burial: Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion.
Jo is survived by her son, Dennis Ray (Elizabeth) Haines of Marion; one granddaughter, Karen Haines (Roger) Bolsinger of Guttenberg; two great-grandchildren, Aaron Quinby and Kayla Bolsinger; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Faye; two brothers, Don and Jack; and an infant granddaughter, Ann Marie Haines.
Jo was born March 8, 1921, the daughter of Addison Ray and Grace May (Hough) Jones, in Marion Township. Jo enjoyed riding her white pony to Pleasant Grove Community School (country school) for eight years before attending high school. She graduated from Marion High School in 1938. On Jan. 2, 1942, she was united in marriage with Donald J. Haines at her parents' home on Blairs Ferry Road. She worked at Collins Radio for a number of years (part of it in the "white room").
In retirement, Jo and Don enjoyed traveling with their Holiday Rambler RV throughout the United States and Canada and wintering in Mesa, Ariz., for 18 years.
