Shawn Renee Kalinay was born March 8, 1969, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to Roger and Ellen (Olson) Kalinay. She grew up in Chelsea, where she attended South Tama County grade school and Junior High. She then moved to the Pierre and Fort Pierre, S.D., area where she graduated from Stanley County High School in 1987. After graduation, she was a member of the United States Army and while in the National Guard, she and her son lived in Maryland.
Since moving back to Pierre, she worked for the Capital Journal, Prynt-comm and most recently, Countryside Hospice.
Shawn's bubbly personality, smile on her face and willingness to lend a helping hand will be sorely missed. To her family, friends and community, she has left an everlasting impression.
Shawn was lucky enough to spend 20 years with the love of her life, Dale Gourneau. She enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews, playing softball, her Coffee Club, boating and spending time in the sun. She was active in Relay for Life and an avid NASCAR fan.
