Helen Ione Bacon was born June 15, 1927, in Buck Creek, Iowa, the daughter of Harvey and Florence Wilson Bacon. Ione graduated from Buck Creek High School in 1944. She continued her education at Capri Cosmetology in Cedar Rapids. She then started her own shop in Hopkinton. Ione Bacon married Phil Himebaugh on Jan. 19, 1947, at Buck Creek Methodist Church. The couple made their home in the Hopkinton/Sand Springs area until 1963, when they moved to Monticello.
Ione kept busy making and decorating cakes, having taffy pulls and working at the Century House. She was a tireless volunteer at the Monticello Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and later at Pennington Square. She would decorate both
facilities for all the holidays. She would also lead the exercise classes. She loved to make candy and cookies at Christmas time to give to her many friends.
Ione loved her church. She was a Sunday School teacher and helped with the high school youth group and confirmation group. She helped found the "Pie Committee" and was active in it until her health would not allow her to attend. She loved her roses but she loved her children and grandchildren even more.
She will be greatly missed.
