Flora McAllister 98, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at Northbrook Manor Care Center. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 2, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 1 to 4 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 3, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
Flora was born Dec. 15, 1915, to Thomas and Flora (Taylor) McAllen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On Oct. 30, 1937, Flora married Thomas P. McDonald; the couple divorced in 1955. Flora then married James McAllister on May 4, 1957, in Kahoka, Mo.
Flora worked as a secretary for the U.S. Air Force from 1962 until her retirement in 1975.
Flora is survived by her sons, James (Mary Kay) McDonald of Marion and Donald (Jeanne) McDonald of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Michael (Kimberly) McDonald, Steven McDonald, Kathleen Knowlson, Susan (Mike) Hobart, Sarah (Mark) Holmes, Eric (Sunshine) McDonald and Sheri (Tony) Carter; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a stepdaughter, Mary Kay Pinckney of Cedar Rapids, and her children, Jimmy, Ann and Larry.
Flora was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James McAllister; and sons, George and Michael McDonald.
Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
