Starn, David G.
David G. Starn, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died at his home on April 24, 2012, following a long illness.
He graduated from Eldora High School in Eldora, Iowa. Following high school he attended Ellsworth Community College. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for six years. Dave was a member of the Operating Engineers Union and worked as an equipment operator for Gee Grading for many years.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Eva Starn. He was an only child.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Carlotta; two sons, Eric (Vicki) of Anamosa and Jud (Lisa) of Palo; two stepdaughters, Wendy Ferguson (Kevin) and Jodi Becicka (Al) of Cedar Rapids; one stepson, Tracy Carter (Sue) of Poplar Grove, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and the family dog, Katie.
Dave was always a very hardworking, proud man. Even as his illness progressed he was still a jokester at heart. He loved the outdoors and took pride in his yard. He loved fishing with his boys and spending time with his family and friends.
He will be remembered in the hearts of all who knew him as a devoted family man.
A private burial will be held on Friday, April 27, at Wilcox Cemetery in Viola. Family and friends may gather at the Moose Lodge, 1820 West Post Rd. SW, Cedar Rapids, from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to our dear friends at Iowa Hospice. We couldn't have gotten through this without you.
Services are under the direction of Iowa Cremation.
