Cairns, Kay L.
Kay L. Cairns, 65, of Cedar Rapids, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, surrounded by her family, at home, following a courageous battle with cancer. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, with Pastor John Seitz officiating. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; children, Jeffrey (Marcia) Cairns, Robin (Patrick) Vanderlind and Bradley (Kim) Cairns, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Morgan and Spencer Vanderlind, Ryan and Miranda Cairns, Emily and Marissa Cairns and Hannah McMurrin; mother, Gladys Hurtt of Centerville; and brother, Jimmy (Diann) Hurtt of Robins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jesse Hurtt.
Kay Lorraine Hurtt was born Dec. 20, 1945, in Fort Riley, Kan., the daughter of Jesse and Gladys (Thomas) Hurtt. On Dec. 31, 1961, she married her teenage sweetheart, William Roger Cairns, in Lancaster, Mo. They were blessed with over 50 wonderful years together. Kay worked at Connectronics since 1992.
She enjoyed gardening, decorating and most of all, being with family and friends.
She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Mercy for their companionate care which allowed them to care for Kay in her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Kay's name to Hospice of Mercy, 315 18th Ave., Hiawatha, IA 52233.
