Brecht, Nickolas 'Nick'
Nickolas “Nick” Brecht, 33, of Central City, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 20, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Central City. A Scripture service will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, at the church in Central City, and the family will greet friends immediately following, until 8 p.m. Burial: Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Survivors include his wife, Cara; four children, Rebecca, Rachel, Renee and Ryan, all at home; his parents, Philip and Judy Brecht of Central City; grandparents, Cletus and Beverly Brecht of Central City; sister, Stacey (Mark) Neighbor of Center Point; and nieces and nephews, Shane, Mason, Matthew, Miranda, Audri and Levi.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Delwin and Shirley Howe.
Nick was born Sept. 5, 1978, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Philip and Judy (Howe) Brecht. He graduated from Central City High School in 1997, and from Kirkwood Community College in 1999. He married Cara Callahan on Dec. 21, 2001, in Coggon, Iowa. Nick had always farmed with his family, and worked for Orschlen Farm and Home for 15 years. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and uncle. Nick loved farming with his family, spending time with his girls, watching deer and napping with Ryan. He was easy going and liked visiting and being with people. Nick was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Nick will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial fund has been established for Nick's children.
