Schneider, Raymond 'Rayzor Ray'
Raymond “Rayzor Ray” Schneider, 53, died peacefully early Wednesday morning, April 25, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with brain cancer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Monticello, with interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Father Wayne Droessler will officiate at the services. Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. Friday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello.
Surviving are his wife, LuAnne; two sons, Jud and Tyler; his parents, Marvin and Donna Schneider; and his grandmother, Leoma Zimmerli, all of Monticello; three sisters, Rhonda (Scott) Smith of Ely, Rhenee (David) Regan of Palm City, Fla., and Rashelle (Brian) Tolan of Windermere, Fla.; his mother- and father-in-law, David and Bonnie Chappell; and brothers and sisters-in-law, Todd and Vickie Chappell, Lauri Chappell and Tracy Chappell, all of Monticello.
Raymond Glen Schneider was born May 16, 1958, at Mercy Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Donna (Schmidt) Schneider. Ray graduated from the Monticello Community Schools with the class of 1976. He went on to the Cedar Rapids Barber College and then served his apprenticeship at Stan Rebicck Barbers in Marshalltown. He returned to Monticello in 1979 and took over his father's shop, Monti Barber Center. Ray married LuAnne Chappell on May 11, 1991, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple operated Monti Barber Center together.
When he wasn't cutting hair, Ray was active in the community - he was a Boy Scout leader, a commissioner of the Lions Club baseball and team sponsor, a charter member of the Monticello Eagles Club, and assisted with the operation of track meets. He loved to fish and hunt and just be outside with Lu and the boys.
