Michalec Sr., James 'Jim' J.
James “Jim” J. Michalec Sr., 60, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday morning, Sept. 25, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center following a long illness. Family graveside services will be at a future date at St. John's Cemetery, with the Rev. William Harnish officiating. Papich-Kuba Funeral Service is serving the family.
Jim is survived by his very special friend of 25 years, Sue Homsey; four children, Brian (Laura) Michalec, Vinton, James J. Michalec Jr., Cedar Rapids, Sloan Michalec, formerly of Des Moines, and Carly Michalec, Hiawatha; three grandchildren, Jarrod, Sara and Jayda Michalec; and three brothers, Larry (Linda) Michalec, Cedar Rapids, Rick (Kathy) Michalec, Clearwater, Fla., and Gary (Jennifer) Michalec, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, James J. Michalec Jr.; his parents, Rudolph Sr. and Frances (Bammert) Michalec; a brother, Rudy Michalec Jr.; and a sister, Margaret Meier.
James was born Aug. 9, 1949, in Cedar Rapids, and was a lifelong resident. He loved the Green Bay Packers and working on cars.
