Tobin, Eugene J. 'Ede'
Eugene J. "Ede" Tobin, 87, of Worthington, died Friday, July 31, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Dyersville after a short illness. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Worthington, by Father Phil Kruse, assisted by Deacon Fred Pins. Friends may call from 2 to
8 p.m. today at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where the Parish Scripture Service will be recited at
3 p.m. and the Worthington Fire Dept. will meet at 6 p.m. Burial: St. Paul's Cemetery.
Ede was born April 1, 1922, in Worthington, the son of John Tobin and Elizabeth Jurgens. He married Dorothy Mae Ostwinkle on June 6, 1949, at St. Paul Catholic Church in Worthington.
Ede was a welder and was employed by Jack Light and later worked for the Dubuque County Hwy Dept. He retired from Dubuque County in 1987. He was also a retired member of the Worthington Fire Department after 31 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy "Dottie," two sons, Ken (Karen) Tobin and Dave (Deanne) Tobin, and a daughter, Linda Tobin, all of Worthington; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law, Del Rose Ostwinkle of Epworth, and Mary Ostwinkle of Worthington.
Ede was preceded in death by three brothers, Vincent, George, and Alfred Tobin; and three sisters, Maggie Lehnhoff, Mae Zoller, and Toots Krogman.
