Hanrahan, Jane A.
Jane A. Hanrahan, 84, of Hanover Court and formerly of 1220 E. Court St., in Iowa City, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009, at Mercy Hospice Care in Iowa City with her family at her side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Very Reverend Rudolph Juarez officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City where a parish rosary will be held beginning at 3 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or St. Patrick's Capital Campaign.
Jane was born February 2, 1925, in Iowa City, the daughter of Leo and Helen Patterson Beasley. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in 1944 and married Joseph "Joe" Hanrahan November 12, 1951, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City.
Jane worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for 24 years, retiring in 1990.
Devoted to her family and her faith, Jane was a member of St. Patrick's Altar & Rosary Society, St. Patrick's Needleworkers, God's Helping Hands and was voted St. Patrick's Irish Mother of the Year in 2007.
Since 1986, Jane was extremely loyal to the Chapel of Perpetual Adoration and the Mother of Perpetual Help Devotion. She was also a member of The Red Hat Ladies. She volunteered countless hours with Mercy Guild at Mercy Hospital, the Angels of Mercy program and Iowa City Hospice.
Survivors include her children, Teresa O'Neil (Tim) of West Branch, Mary Jane Walker
of Iowa City, Margaret Juels (Tim) of West Branch, Joseph Hanrahan (Renee) of Solon, Dan Hanrahan, Mike Hanrahan (Kirsten), Marty Hanrahan (Ann), all of Iowa City, and Tim Hanrahan of West Branch; 18 grandchildren, Tim (Sarah), Kelli, Dan, Chad, Angi (Chad), Nick, Jennifer, Kari, Hillary (Michael), Huck, Chris, Nathan, Madelynn, Logan, Riley, Jordan, Derek and Ryan; four great grandchildren, Lukas, Morgan, Kale and Andrew; sisters, Mary Ellen (Richard) Steninger of Cedar Rapids, Nellie Sindelar of Ely, Nevada, Florence Hagen of Ankeny and Cathy (Duane) Anderson of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Joe in 2001, a daughter Sheila, four brothers, Bruce, Herb, Art and Frank and one sister, Renata.
