Jerry L. Markwell, 71, of Hiawatha, died Saturday April 26, 2014, at Garnett Place. There will be no visitation or services. Iowa Cremation is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Joan A. Markwell; his sons, Lee C. (Noreen) Markwell of Cedar Rapids and David M. (Malia) Markwell of Odenton, Md.; stepsons; Rod (Mary) Wise of Mount Vernon, Mike Wise of Sacramento, Calif., and Tim Wise (Jean) of Cedar Rapids; his stepdaughters, Wendy (Kevin) Belt of Berwyn, Ill., and Amy Brown of Cedar Rapids; his siblings, Mike R. Plummer of Cedar Rapids, Patty (Mark) Fitzsimmons of Anamosa, Tina (Mark) Minisquero of Tenn., and John R. Christopherson of Iowa; and his aunt, Marlene Leet of Warner Springs, Calif.
Also surviving are grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Jerry was born April 11, 1943, in North English,
Iowa, the son of Vincent
and Eloise
(Edwards) Markwell. He married Joan Wise on May 1, 1976, in Nashua, Iowa. Jerry was a forklift driver for Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids. He served in the Navy in Vietnam. Jerry was an avid fisherman who loved animals and camping. Jerry had many hobbies, including whittling and creating custom jewelry from gem stones. He enjoyed taking walks with his wife and spending time helping his family. Jerry was an incredible husband, father and friend and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the Quaker Oats Credit Union for leukemia research.
