Veronica "Von"
Williams, 102, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 28, 2014, at Summit Pointe Senior Living, Marion. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Monday, March 31, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. David Beckman. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharon Long of Marion and Norma (Ron) Bader of New Glarus, Wis.; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Von was born Oct. 3, 1911, in Bellevue, Iowa, the daughter of John and Mary (Wilming) Koppes. She was a graduate of the Bellevue High School. On Feb. 7, 1931, she married Wayne Williams in Bellevue. A homemaker, Von also worked for many years as a lunch room supervisor at Washington High School in Cedar Rapids. She treasured her family and enjoyed attending the many games and activities of her grandchildren. Von loved ice cream and listening to music in the Marion Square.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne; son-in-law, Bill Long; and siblings, Clarence, Adelaide, Cecelia, Geraldine, Esther, Tilda, Victor and an infant sibling.
A memorial fund has been established.
