Arnold LeRoy Heck, 76, died Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital in
Cedar Rapids after a sudden illness. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories, officiated by Cedar Memorial's Staff Certified Celebrant Julie Freese. Interment, with military honors, will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Arnold was born April 11, 1937, in Iowa City, the son of Ursil and Hilda (Seiler) Heck. He was united in marriage to Edna C. Gorsh in Cedar Rapids on Jan. 10, 1958. He served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class in Germany from 1960 to 1962. After his military discharge, Arnold started Heck's Transfer and remained the owner and operator. He was also employed as a laborer at Rockwell Collins until his retirement in 1992.
Arnold enjoyed collecting coins and
model cars.
He never missed his
daily meeting, the 1 p.m. "Boys Club" at Donutland.
Arnold is survived by his wife, Edna; son, Winston Heck (Angela); granddaughter, Hope Marie Heck; sister, Shirley Heck; brother-in-law, Albert Cejka; and sister-in-law, Joan Heck, all of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
granddaughter, Corinna Heck; three brothers, Donald, Gary and Charles Heck; and a sister, Janet Cejka.
