Phillis, Lucille Katherine
Lucille Katherine Phillis, 89, of Burbank, Calif., formerly of Vinton, died Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, following an sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Clarke E. Frederick officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday.
Lucille was born August 6, 1921, to Carl and Mary (Rinderknecht) Wieditz in Eden Township, near Newhall, and graduated from the Vinton High School.
On August 23, 1942, she married Carlos Phillis at Kahoka, Mo. After World War II, they settled in Hollywood, Calif., then in Burbank. Lucille was employed as an office manager at several printing firms in Burbank for many years. She was active in the Sigma Tau Psi Sorority for many years and volunteered in health care in later years. The couple made their home in Burbank until this year when they decided to move back to Vinton. Lucille was suddenly hospitalized while Carlos made the move and now resides at Windsor Manor.
Lucille is survived by her husband, Carlos of Vinton; her son, Gary Phillis and wife Patricia Bornmann of Boulder, Colo.; her brother, Wayne Wieditz; and her sisters-in-law, Ruth Wieditz, Francis Wieditz and Lois Wieditz, all of Vinton.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard, Vernon and Walter Wieditz; and her sister, Marcella Seboldt.
