Heefner, Howard 'Bud'
Howard “Bud” Heefner, 87, of Hiawatha, died Friday, April 30, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Marion, by the Rev. Randy Bobzien. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Survivors include his wife, Darlene Heefner; two sons, Duane (Anne Marie) of Marion and Allen H. Heefner (Sandy) of Springville; a stepdaughter, Terri Spangler (Mike) of Spring Grove, Ill.; five grandchildren, Brian Heefner (Angel) of Cedar Rapids, Mark Heefner (Kristy) of Marion, Dixie Benge (Kent) of St. Louis, Mo., Shelly Spangler (Reuben) of Spring Grove, Ill., and Perry White (Dalene) of Manitowoc, Wis.; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Heefner; a brother, Vernon Heefner; and a sister, Helen Prins.
Bud was born April 2, 1923, in Toddville, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Bertha Oliphant Heefner. He married Faye McBurney in January 1945 in Toddville. She died in November 1974. He then married Darlene Hall in May 1981 in Des Moines. Bud was an electrician for Longview Fibre Co. in Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1988. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Marion, where he was a trustee for over 20 years.
His hobby was enjoying photography and spending time with family and friends. Bud served in the Navy during World War II as a Pharmacy mate.
