Owen, Colleen J.
Colleen J. Owen, 80, of Iowa City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center in Coralville following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, at Christ The King Lutheran Church, 325 Mormon Trek Blvd., Iowa City. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Lensing Funeral Service is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Christ The King Lutheran Church.
Colleen was born July 1, 1929, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Nina (Guffey) Walker. She was raised in Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School in 1947. On March 9, 1952, Colleen was united in marriage to Raymond Owen. In 1955, Colleen and Ray moved to Iowa City where she enjoyed a lengthy career at The University of Iowa for over 30 years.
She was a charter member of Christ The King Lutheran Church and remained extremely involved in church activities throughout the years. She was a very giving person who was also known to be fiercely independent at times. Colleen was a very loving person who enjoyed being a doting wife, mother and grandmother.
Survivors include her loving husband, Raymond of Iowa City; and their two sons, Mike (Cynthia) of Iowa City and their children, Molissa of Kenosha, Wis., and Christopher and Emily of Iowa City; and Mark (Amy) and their children, Abbey, Benjamin and Ryan, all of North Liberty; a sister, Mary Margaret Goodman of Centerville; a brother, Clyde (Viola) Walker of Phoenix, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
Colleen was preceded in death by her parents.
