Mormann, Jean S.
Jean S. Mormann, 83, of Dyersville, died Monday, July 5, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, from injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Robert Gross will officiate. Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today at the Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville, where a parish Scripture service will be held at 5 p.m.
Jean was born Sept. 13, 1926, in Worthington, Iowa, the daughter of Ben and Rose (Billmeyer) Schemmel. She married Walter J. Mormann on Sept. 1, 1949, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica, Dyersville. Together they farmed near Earlville, until Walter's death in 1994, and then Jean retired in Dyersville.
She was a very loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's events including sporting events, county fair shows, dance recitals and poms.
Jean had a deep religious faith and believed in Catholic education. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and gardening.
---- Survivors include her children, Nancy (Marvin) Krapfl of Petersburg, Rick (Cindy) Mormann of Earlville, Judy (Walt) Wessel of Colesburg, Ron (Deanna) Mormann of Marion, Randy (Jacqueline) Mormann of Manchester, and Sheri (Mark) Fitzpatrick of Greeley; 18 grandchildren, Jeff Krapfl, Jenny (Chad) Oberbroeckling, Tracy (Cameron) Schulte, Kristie, Nicole and Jessica Mormann, Brent and Jason Wessel, Megan, Dianna and Allie Mormann, Blake, Mitchell and Molly Mormann, and Stacy, Jacob, Kari and Haley Fitzpatrick, and one great-grandchild, William Schulte.
She is also survived by a brother, Bernard Schemmel of Worthington; one sister, Pearl Recker of Dyersville; a sister-in-law, Gladys Schemmel of Monticello; a brother-in-law, Vernon (Madonna) Gudenkauf of Dubuque; and sisters-in-law, Agnes Mensen of Earlville, Abby Mormann of Colesburg, and Catherine Mormann of Mead, Wash.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; two brothers, Leo and LeRoy Schemmel; a sister, Marion Gudenkauf; brothers-in-law, Gerald Recker, Elmer Geistkemper, Art Mormann, LuVerne Mormann and Melvin Mensen; and one sister-in-law, Evelyn Geistkemper.
Memorials are preferred.
