Leichty, Ruth (Earnest)

CORALVILLE - Ruth (Earnest) Leichty, 75, passed away Friday, Oct. 1, 2010, with her loving husband by her side, in their Coralville home. A memorial celebration of life for Ruth will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, where the family will greet friends after 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed for the First Mennonite Columbarium. Arrangements are with Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service.

Ruth was born Jan. 7, 1935, in Milford, Neb. She married Lowell Leichty on Oct. 10, 1954. They raised their family in Coralville. For many years Ruth worked as the office manager for the family firm, L.J. Leichty Construction. Ruth was deeply involved in the life and work of the First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. She had a vibrant network of friends and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lowell Leichty; their five children, Greg (Kathleen) Leichty, Phil (Kim) Leichty, Kathy (Loren) Sands, Ruth (Brad) Giesking and Mark (Kristen) Leichty; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Arlene Kremer, Ina Rediger, Don Earnest and Ron Earnest.
