Shirley Mae Anderson was born July 11, 1929, in Roland, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Ellen (Gurine) Anderson. She was raised in Roland, graduating from Roland/Story High School. On July 17, 1954, she married Dale Paul Miller at the Salem Lutheran Church in Roland. For a number of years, the couple owned and operated the Miller Cafe in Roland, moving to Coralville in 1966. Here she worked for Slade Roofing for over 11 years and AAA Mechanical Contractors for over 16 years before retiring.
Shirley enjoyed life, to say she was an Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs Fan was an understatement! She was an active member of Christ The King Lutheran Church, having taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and involved with so many other church activities throughout her life in the church. She was a former member of the Eagles Lodge, active member of the Coralville American Legion Auxiliary and a bowler for most of her life. But most important and dear to her was her family, no prouder mom or grandma could be found when it came to them!
Her family includes her husband of 60 years, Dale; three daughters and their husbands, Deb and Robert Bergstrom, Julie and Dave Wenman and Terri and Charlie Fulton; six grandchildren, Eric Bergstrom and his wife, Casidy, Michael Bergstrom, Chris Wenman, Tracy Wenman, Jason Fulton and Tiffani Fulton; sister, Ruth Reed; two sisters-in-law, Marietta Anderson and Vernie Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Milton, Edward, and Truman; and sisters, Bernice, Jenny, Berdella and Evelyn.
