Ken Butler, 72, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at his home. Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at the Community Center at the Cedar Valley Townhouses, 3000 J St. SW, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Theresa Butler of Cedar Rapids; children, Mark (Tracy) Butler of Pensacola, Fla., Tammy (Ed) Mims, Mathew Hentges, Dustin (Rachel) McDowell and Heather Morgan, all of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Rita (Ronald) Fehlhater of Springville; and his cat, Sassy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy (Ron) Jarmon.
Ken was born on July 25, 1942, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, son of Charles and Lodema (McKinstry) Butler. He graduated from Springville High School in 1961. Ken served in the United States Navy from October 1961 until October 1963, during the Bay of Pigs. He loved sports, especially the Hawkeyes, Cubs and the Steelers. Ken was a handyman and enjoyed helping everyone in the neighborhood and volunteered at the HD Youth Center. He played the drums for many years in Country Western bands.
