Rita F. Stumpf, 84, of Riverside, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at Mercy Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Riverside, with Father David Brownfield and
Deacon Derick Cranston officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Richmond. Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with a rosary and vigil at 2 p.m.
A memorial fund has been established for the family's choice.
Rita Frances (Thomann) Stumpf was born Sept. 15, 1930, in Riverside, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Alma (Simon) Thomann. She graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School. On May 5, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert J. "Red" Stumpf at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Rita was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the HJ Club.
Rita raised nine children. She cleaned Holy Trinity Catholic Church for 10 years and took care of the linens at St. Mary's. Rita enjoyed flower gardening, baking, cooking and birds. She was known for her cinnamon rolls, pancakes and cookies.
Survivors include nine children, Terry (Mary Jane) Stumpf of Riverside, Randy (Betty) Stumpf of Kalona, Nancy (Jim) Flynn of Washington, Beverly (Bob) Miller of Riverside, Nick (Sue) Stumpf of Ainsworth, Tim (Kris) Stumpf of Lone Tree, Laurie (Randy) Sexton of Riverside, Rod Stumpf of Kalona and Bonnie Stumpf of Riverside; 15 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Annette (Jim) Shalla of Kalona; and a sister-in-law and friend, Betty Thomann.
Preceding Rita in death were her parents; her husband, Robert; one son, Mike; one brother, Joe Thomann; and two sisters, Rose Thomann and Viola Kasper.
