Genevieve "Gen" E. Grishaber, 97, of Marion, died Friday, Oct. 31, 2014, at Willow Gardens Care Center following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ivan Nienhaus. Burial: St. John Cemetery. A vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Teahen Funeral Home, Cedar Rapids, where friends may visit with the family following the vigil until 8 p.m. Friends may also visit with the family on Wednesday after 9 a.m. at the church.
Survivors include her daughter, Diane (John) Svoboda of Marion; grandchildren, Philip (Michelle) Svoboda of Atkins and Mark (Melanie) Svoboda and Ann Svoboda, both of Marion; great-grandchildren, Devon, James, Dylan and Jacob Svoboda of Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph (1995); brother, Edward Sterenchuk; and sisters, Sister Helen Majewski, Laura O'Brien, Lillian Salveson and Elizabeth "Elsie" Weland.
Genevieve Elaine was born Dec. 11, 1916, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Harry and Eleanor (Zdebski) Majewski. She married Rudolph John Grishaber on Aug. 10, 1940, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids.
She enjoyed spending time with her family, vacationing, gambling and her "grandpets."
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Willow Gardens Care Center and Hospice of Mercy for their kind and compassionate care of Gen.
