Delmer D. Mehlert, 77, of Hiawatha, formerly of Belle Plaine, passed away peacefully in his sleep on
Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at his home. Delmer was a member of Noelridge Christian Church. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, where a visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Inurn-ment will be private at Oak Hill Cemetery in Belle Plaine.
Delmer was born Dec. 14, 1936, to John and Wilma (Scheel) Mehlert in Keystone, Iowa. Delmer graduated from Keystone High School in 1955 and served in the Army from 1955 to 1958.
He was united in marriage to Judith K. Bushnell on Jan. 31, 1960, and is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Susan Tharp of Mount Auburn and Steven (Jennifer) Mehlert of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Cory Tharp of Waterloo, Cody (Lucas) Lunby of Maynard and Morgan Mehlert (fiancee Katie Walton) of Cedar Rapids, and great-grand-children, Isabella and Addelise Tharp.
Delmar loved people and his life was filled with serving others. He loved working at Keystone Place in Cedar Rapids and helping his wife with her music.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister at birth.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
