Phyllis Marie Port Wilkens, 67, of Biltmore Lake, N.C., died Wed-nesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at
John F. Keever Hospice Solace Center.
A native of Anamosa, Iowa, Mrs. Wilkens was a
daughter of the late Nathan Clayton and Fern Viola Wetzel Port. She enjoyed gardening and earned the distinction of Master Gardener while she lived in Illinois.
She also was an avid tennis player and had volunteered her time to teach the sport to Special Olympics athletes. Mrs. Wilkens was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Nativity in Arden, N.C.
Surviving are her husband, William D. "Bill" Wilkens, a native of Decorah, Iowa; sons, Jonathan W. Wilkens and wife Karlene and Michael D. Wilkens and wife Sibel; brother, Paul Port; sisters, Pamela Powers and Patricia Wright; granddaughter, Isobel Wilkens; and many other family and friends.
A funeral service for Mrs. Wilkens will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Lutheran Church of the Nativity, with Vicar Gregg Hoffman officiating. Her family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
