GENE MEEKER
Central City
Gene A. Meeker, 64, of Central City, passed away at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, on Thurs-day, Oct. 9, 2014. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Central City, and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday. Funeral services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, Central City, with military honors by American Legion Wapsie Post 421 of Central City. Private family inurnment will take place at Mount Clark Cemetery, Central City, at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Anita; children, Chandra (Mike) Fleming of Greeley, Cassandra Meeker (Adam Sauer) of Marion, Carina Meeker (Eric Murray) of Cedar Rapids, Jedediah (Kali) Meeker of Ryan and Victor Meeker (Amy Madsen) of Central City; brother, Roger (Sallie) Meeker of Apple Valley, Calif.; five grandchildren, Elijah, Shyanne, Abbigail, Allissa and Faith; aunt, Zelda Minish Kinkead (Jack Scott) of Springville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and an infant brother, Ross Meeker.
Gene was born June 19, 1950, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Floyd Leigh and Ruth Allgenett (Minish) Meeker. He graduated from Orange Township Consolidated High School in 1969. Gene was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during the Vietnam War. He married Anita Louise Kauffman on May 19, 1978, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Gene was employed with the Abbe Center for Community Care for 38 years, until his retirement in 2013.
He was a member of Hart-Parr Oliver Collectors Association and Central City High School FFA Advisory board. Gene enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, going to tractor shows and attractions, time spent on the farm, and of course, telling jokes.
