David Lynn Omar, 68, died in Kansas City, Mo., on Monday, Nov. 24, 2014. Services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at the Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel. Burial at the Muslim National Cemetery.
David was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Thomas Omar and Lila Omar (nee Hamed) on Jan. 6, 1946. David lived many years of his life in Cedar Rapids, but also lived in the states of Maryland, Kansas and Michigan.
David served in the United States Army from 1968 through 1971 earning a rank of E5 and served in Korea. Later, David earned his bachelor's from the University of Maryland in 1973 and a master's degree from Emporia State University in 1975. David taught for seven years and then entered mortgage banking as a career in 1980.
David is survived by his wife, Ebtissam (Sandy); a son, Aaron (Ibel) Omar; and a daughter, Julie (Vince) Mease.
He is also survived by siblings, Jeanne (Mike) Berry, Emmitt (Louise) Omar, Sue Robertson and Faye (Reggie) Grassfield.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Lila and Kamilah Omar and Margo Mease; and many neices, nephews and friends.
David's passions were folk music, theater and the performing arts. He was a natural entertainer and performed professionally on many stages. David was a warm and welcoming individual with an infectious laugh and a love for his fellow man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
