JOSEPH DIGIANTONIO

Joseph J. Digiantonio, 95, passed away from a short illness on Nov. 17, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital. Family will be conducting a private service at a later date.
Joe was born in Canton, Ohio, on Dec. 12, 1918, to
Concezio and Felicia Digiantonio. After grad-uation from McKinley High School, he went into the CCC. He then joined the Army Air Corps, which later became the U.S. Air Force, obtaining the rank of chief master sergeant. On April 9, 1946, he married his wife of 68 years, Ann Catalano. After retiring from the Air Force, Joe went to work at UCD for 15 years. In 2003, he and his wife moved to Cedar Rapids to be closer to family.
He is survived by his wife, Ann; son, Richard; daughter-in-law, Joanne; and two granddaughters, Naomi and Gina Digiantonio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and three brothers.
He was known for his storytelling, bringing vivid detail to life during the Great Depression, and 30 years in the military.
Joe was a devoted husband, a great father, grandfather and a good friend.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials directed to the Wounded Warrior Project.
