Moser, Unis Yvonne (Broers)
Unis Yvonne (Broers) Moser, 76, a resident of Iowa City, died July 18, 2013.
She was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Lincoln, Neb., the daughter of Helen Yvonne Emry Broers and Raymond Willis Broers. At age 5, her parents moved to Des Moines and she attended Monroe Elementary, Calanan Junior High, and graduated from North High School in 1954. She attended Broadlawns Polk County Hospital Nursing School and graduated in 1957. Unis married the love of her life, Gordon Lee Moser, on Sept. 30, 1956, in Des Moines.
Unis worked as a clinical instructor at Broadlawns School of Nursing until early 1961, when she became house supervisorat Broadlawns. She earned her B. S.degree in nursing in 1979 and held other nursing roles at Broadlawns until 1981, when she joined Upjohn Home Healthcare and later the Iowa Foundation for Medical Care in 1982, both in utilization review positions. From 1986 until her retirement in 1999, she was a senior benefits management specialist with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Iowa.
In 2005, Unis and Gordon moved to Iowa City to be near their two older sons and families. Throughout her entire career, Unis was passionate about the profession of nursing and maintained a nursing license until her death.
Both Unis and her husband, Gordon, were active in their longtime congregation (Cottage Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church, Des Moines), their sons' academic pursuits, Soap Box Derby, family gatherings in Iowa and Nebraska, camping, gardening, sewing, reading, and of course the many fun-filled music and sports happenings of her grandchildren.
Unis was a spirited, self-reliant individual who always put her family first. Without a doubt, her greatest love was being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
Unis' family includes Gordon, her husband of 56 years, of Iowa City; sons, Jeffrey of Cedar Rapids, Mark (Lisa Lisbona) of Iowa City and Jason (Carla Hoffman) of Ridgecrest, Calif. Her treasured grandchildren include Lee (Kristin Strong), Marie, Krista, Justin, Megan and Baylen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Roy Lee Broers.
