Ralph Washington, 53, died Sunday, June 2, 2013, at home following a brief illness. Funeral Services with military honors will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 8, at Parkview Church, 15 Foster Rd., Iowa City, with the Rev. Douglas Schillinger officiating. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Washington Children's Education Fund.

Ralph was born July 18, 1959, in Chicago. On Dec. 5, 1983, Ralph married Monique Roberts. He had served his country in the U.S. Army.

For 28 years Ralph was employed at the Oakdale Medical and Classification Center. He enjoyed softball, outdoor barbecuing and time spent with his family and friends.

Ralph is survived by his wife, Monique; five children, Tiffany, Ralph Jr., Jasper, Djimon and Niara “Nia;” three grandchildren; 12 siblings, Louise, Delores, Wilverlyn (John), Edward, Henry (Gwen), Sandra, Virginia, Lewis (Kathleen), Janice, Jacqueline, Lettie and Anthony; and numerous nieces and nephews.
