Schonberg, Robert B.
Robert B. Schonberg, 75, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at his home from complications of pneumonia. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 14, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, conducted by Pastor Randy Bobzien. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the funeral home. Burial: Troy Mills Cemetery, Troy Mills.
Survivors include his wife and love of his life for the past 25 years, Sherry Schonberg of Cedar Rapids; children, Ellen (Steve) Cohenour of Fayette, Denise (Tim) Bird of Vinton, Jay (Tracy) Schonberg of Marion, Jaret Schonberg of Thermopolis, Wyo., Pam (Eric) Divis of Marion and Kevin Haas (Robin) of Cedar Rapids; sister, Ruby Davis of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; 19 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and four very special four-legged companions, Buffy, Bella, Bobby and Bebe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anders and Winifred Schonberg; brother-in-law, Gene Davis; and his dog, Bear.
Robert was born Aug. 11, 1937, in Troy Mills, son of Anders and Winifred (Noble) Schonberg. He graduated from Center Point High School in 1956. Robert served in the United States Navy from 1956-1958 and was stationed in Guam. He was discharged and returned to Cedar Rapids, where he married Judith Hanna; they later divorced. He worked in construction, then Rockwell Collins in machine maintenance. Robert retired in 1992, and married Sherry Haas (Yonkovic) on Aug. 28, 2001.
After retirement he enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, woodworking and recently building big doll houses. He was known as Mr. Fix-it and enjoyed working on small engines.
