McNamara, Regis Clarence
Regis Clarence McNamara, 80, of Alburnett, died Sunday, June, 23, 2013, at Morning Sun Care Center, Morning Sun, Iowa. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Prairieburg, Iowa, by Father Tony Kruse. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery, Prairieburg.
Survivors include his children, Michael (Carol) McNamara, Katherine McNamara-Severson, Carrie Arment, Connie Cunningham, Carmella McNamara, Christina Williams and James McNamara; stepchildren, Robert Walters, Pat Coats and Raelinn Walters; sisters, Anna Mae Petrick, Mary Jencks and Genevieve Welsch; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and former wife, Margaret Schillig.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Katherine; wife, Mary McIntosh; and siblings, Rita Hass, Edward McNamara, Robert McNamara, Kathleen Mangold, Joseph McNamara and Josephine Stallman.
Regis was born Aug. 7, 1932, in Prairieburg, the son of Clarence and Katherine (Henry) McNamara. He was one of 10 brothers and sisters. Regis was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War, where he received a Purple Heart. He was an iron worker with Local 89 and was a member of the Am Vets. Regis loved fishing and was an enthusiastic Irishman. He enjoyed dying his beard green for the St. Patrick's Day parade and playing Santa Claus for Christmas.
