Drahos, Stanley John
Stanley John Drahos, 86, of Bertram, passed away Friday, April 26, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday, May 2, at St. Wenceslaus Church, Cedar Rapids by Father Chris Podhajsky. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. Burial: Campbell Cemetery, Bertram. Following the burial, a celebration of life will be held at the Moose Lodge, 1820 West Post Rd. SW, Cedar Rapids.
Stanley was born Oct. 12, 1926, in Cedar Rapids to Frank and Amelia Drahos. He married Irma Lnenicka on April 6, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. He worked at “The Packing House” (Wilson Foods) for 17 years and retired from Collins Radio in 1983 after working there 24 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and mayor of Bertram from 1973 to 1979.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Irma; a son, Don (Ann) Drahos, Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Damon (Elizabeth) Drahos, Schaumburg, Ill. and Megan Drahos (fiance Jonathan Hoffman), Hoboken, N.J.; and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Camille Drahos, Schaumburg, Ill.
He is also survived by a brother, John Drahos; and a sister, Alice Mosby.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Frank Drahos and Wesley Drahos; sisters, Julia Drahos and Molly Mach; and half brothers, Ed Pospisil and Gus Pospisil.
Stan was good at fixing almost anything and liked doing things just right. He was an avid Cubs and Hawkeye fan. Stan enjoyed hunting and trout fishing, camping with friends, dancing and the pleasure of the company of his family and many friends.
