Sternberg, Cleone Mary
Cleone Mary Sternberg, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, in her home, with her family by her side. Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, where a visitation will begin at 9 a.m. The Rev. Chris Podhajsky will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include a daughter, Susan Burgess of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Curt (Tanya) Burgess, Nick Burgess, Elizabeth Burgess and Sara Burgess, all of Cedar Rapids; her siblings, Goldie Johnson of Waterloo, Herbie Becker of Fort Dodge, Will Becker of Waterloo and Henrietta Becker of Waterloo; close friend, Steve McDaniel of Cedar Rapids; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Hanna, Cody, Jackson and Carly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Elmer Burgess and Jesse Sternberg; a daughter, Donna Burgess; her sons, Jim and Ricky Burgess; and her siblings, Leonard, Ruby, Edvin, Jerry, Arnie and Henry.
Cleone was born Dec. 25, 1933, in Caledonia, Minn., the daughter of Henry and Agnes (Meyer) Becker. She married Elmer Burgess; he died in 1977. She then married Jesse Sternberg. Cleo was a certified nursing assistant, helping many. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
