Wilson, Opal
Opal Wilson, 96, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Vinton. Memorial Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Noelridge Christian Church, Cedar Rapids, where the family will receive visitors one hour before services. Interment will be at the Garrison Cemetery following the service.
Opal is survived by her children, Judy (Tony) Fox, Manchester, Mollie (Charlie) Hauser, Masonville, Marcia Speier, Monterey, Calif., Greg (Gina) Wilson, Garrison, Patti Foltz and Elaine Faas, both of Cedar Rapids, and Tim Wilson, Sunnyvale, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; many stepgrandchildren, stepgreat-grandchildren and stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and four nieces.
Opal was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Ogden, Ill. She grew up in Garrison and graduated from Garrison High School in 1933. She married Arthur H. Wilson on Sept. 29, 1938; he died April 5, 1982. Opal was active in the Rebekahs, Legion Auxiliary, Chat and Darn, New Encounters, and a bowling league.
Opal's greatest joy was her family. They were her life and she with them, spending time together at the many family reunions, birthdays, and holidays. She loved to play cards, balloon volleyball and Rummy Cube.
Opal raised her family and helped work the farm with her husband. She then worked for the Postal Service for many years before retiring.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband; one son; and dear friend, Wilda Larson.
A memorial fund has been established in her name.
