Darlene E. Wombacher, 85, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at Bickford Cottage. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church with Father Gary Beckman officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a vigil service will be held at 6:45 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Bickford Cottage.
Darlene was born on March 25, 1930, in Keota, Iowa, the daughter of Jess and Irene (Heyer) Page. She was united in marriage to Howard Wombacher on Nov. 20, 1951, in Keota, Iowa. He preceded her in death on April 1, 2005.
Darlene ran her own business, Darlene's Bridals, for 25 years as a seamstress, specializing in wedding attire. She also worked for the University of Iowa in the sewing room for 12 years. She was a member of the St. Wenceslaus Altar and Rosary and the National Catholic Order of Foresters.
Darlene is survived by her five children, Connie (Randy) Jacobson of Fresno, Calif., Steve (Roxanne) Wombacher of Tiffin, Roger (Beth) Wombacher of Iowa City, Debbie (Dave) Johnson of Iowa City and Tina (Michael) Wolf of Marion; one son-in-law, Jim Seaton of Dubuque; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, Nick (Lisa) Jacobson and their children, Charlotte and another due in July; Adam Jacobson; Clint (Lupita) Wombacher and their children, Steven and Katie; Genevieve (Cody) Burch with a child due in May; Bridget (Jacob) Hoffman and their children, Jory and Oliver; Bronwen (Eddie) Mosquera and their children, Avery and Jack; Sally Wombacher; Lindsey (Todd) Keppler and their children, Addison and Colten; Ryan (Chelsea) Johnson and their child, Kylee; Alison Seaton; Anna Seaton; Mitchell Wolf and Andrew Wolf; and one sister, Martha Johnson of Davenport.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; parents; and one daughter, Jolene Seaton.
