LYNN NITZSCHKE
Marion
Lynn Eric Nitzschke, 75, was called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday April 3, 2015, at Bickford Cottage in Marion, with his son and his daughter-in-law at his side. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Pastor Pat Fish will officiate at the service. Additional information regarding the date and time of the memorial service will be posted at www.cedarmemorial.com.
Survivors include his son, Brett (Barb Grant) of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Marie of Waterloo and Deloris of Lawton, Iowa; former spouse and friend, Neysa Laughlin of Downers Grove, Ill.; former spouse and friend, Patty Nitzschke of Springfield, Mo.; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his faithful companion, Tiger.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Yvette; and his brothers, Warren, Richard and Andrew.
Lynn was born Nov. 16, 1939, in Remsen, Iowa, the son of Otto and Eda (Scott) Nitzschke. He graduated from Remsen High School in 1957, attended Westmar College in LeMars and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1961, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in general science. Lynn also received a master's degree in natural sciences in 1970 from the University of South Dakota.
In 1962, Lynn began a career as a teacher with the Akron Community School District. He taught general science, chemistry and physics for over 20 years. His students not only gained a greater appreciation for science and nature from being in his classes, but several of his students went on to become doctors, engineers, and physicists. In 1980, he was the sponsor of a team from Akron High School that won the State Physics Olympics Championship.
In 1986, Lynn moved to Branson, Mo., where he began a successful career as a real estate broker. In 1992, he received the Million Dollar Club Life Member award from the Missouri Association of Realtors. Lynn later moved to Springfield, Mo., where he managed, rehabilitated and renovated several properties; delivered meals to the homebound; helped construct ramps for the disabled; and went on and supported mission trips to Nicaragua.
Lynn had a gift for being able to fix almost anything mechanical. Lynn also had the unique talent that allowed him to recreate meals in his kitchen that he experienced throughout his travels without a recipe, which he enjoyed making for family and friends.
He was a fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He enjoyed building and racing motorcycles, and working on and driving his Corvettes. He also enjoyed music, nature and photography. One of his photographs was selected for publication in the book, "Images of the Ozarks."
Lynn was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle and dad, who loved spending time with his family.
Lynn will be greatly missed, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank everyone at Bickford Cottage in Marion for the loving care they provided to Lynn over the last year.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association in Lynn's memory.
