Joann M. Kelsey, 79, of Palo, died Thursday, July 3, 2014, at The Woodlands/ The Meth-Wick Community, Cedar Rapids, following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Services: 11 a.m. Friday, July 11, at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids by the Rev. David O'Connor. Private family burial at Spring Grove Cemetery will be at a later date. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 10, at Teahen Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Friday after 10 a.m.
Joann is survived by her husband, Claude; four daughters, Belinda (Billy) Yuska of Covington, Bonnie (Rodney) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Barb (Dan) Teed of Robins and Becky Kelsey-Chamberlain (Mark) of Palo; three grandchildren, Danielle (Russ) O'Rourke of Fort Dodge, Brandon (Jodie) Yuska of Cedar Rapids and Kelsey (Michael) Rumery of Palo; and three great-grand-children, Katelyn, Hayden and Nolan Yuska.
She was preceded in death by her parents and stepsister, LaVonne Hinman.
Joann Margaret was born Jan. 3, 1935, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Hugh and Anne Melvin Coyle. She married Claude Duane Kelsey on July 6, 1956, at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. She worked at Newman's Department Store and then as a housekeeper for The Village Inn.
Joann enjoyed spending time with her family, bowling and camping. She always had a smile on her face and had a way of brightening your day with her incredibly friendly personality. She was able to make friends anywhere she went.
The family would like to thank the staff at The Meth-Wick Community for its outstanding care and compassion they showed toward Joann and the family.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be later donated to the East Central Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, The Meth-Wick Community or The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
