Ralph Husmann, 88, died peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at Jones Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family and friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 16, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 until 6 p.m. Sunday at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. The Rev. Ellery Dykeman will officiate at the services.

Surviving are his wife of almost 70 years, Doris; two children, Larry (Susan) Husmann, Columbus, Ind., and LuAnn (Richard) Wolken, Monticello; seven grandchildren, Todd (Jennifer) Husmann, Tom Husmann, Christin (Randy) Husmann-Miller, Michael (Teresa) Wolken, Matthew (Pam) Wolken, Melissa Wolken and Brian (fiancee, Ali Austin) Wolken; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a nephew, Nile (Judy) Husmann, Center Junction.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy (Raymond) Tuet; and brother, Merle (Pauline) Husmann.
Ralph John Husmann was born Oct. 2, 1925, near Antioch in his family home, the son of John and Lillie Henrichs Husmann. Ralph attended the Antioch school near Anamosa. He graduated from the Center Junction High School in 1942. Ralph Husmann and Doris Mae Porter were married July 5, 1944, at Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Ralph worked as a butter maker at Amber, Springville and Center Junction Cooperative creameries. He later farmed the family farm near Center Junction. Ralph started working as a salesman for Walnut Grove 4X4 feed in 1954, retiring in 1988 after 34 years. He served for 30 years with German Mutual, where he was director from 1975 to 2005 and vice president from 1989 to 2005.
Ralph was a lifelong member of Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. He was baptized Oct. 25, 1925, and confirmed his faith on April 6, 1941. Ralph served on many committees at church over the years. He was president of the con-gregation and chairman of the building committee when the new church was constructed.
Ralph was a good athlete; he played basketball, baseball and softball. He was on the Center Junction High School team that went to the semi-finals of the state tournament. He worked at Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids for a short time and he played on its basketball team in the Cedar Rapids industrial league. He was a great Hawkeye fan and an avid golfer.
