CARL MURDOCK
Marion
Carl C. Murdock passed away Saturday, June 28, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital.
Carl was born to the Rev. Reynolds and Elsie (Kerr) Murdock on Sept. 11, 1927, in Mount Pleasant. He served in the Navy during World War II and returned in 1947 to farm near Ogden. In 1950, he married Ferne Anderson. In 1954, the family moved to Cedar Rapids, where Carl operated an accounting business. Ferne passed away in 1987.
In 1989, Carl retired to Tucson, Ariz., where he met and married Ione Poole Mehlert. The couple traveled extensively and returned to Iowa in 2001. They moved to Village Ridge in Marion in 2008.
Carl was a longtime member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church. He was invariably a gentleman but also a gentle man, with kindness, warmth and care for everyone he saw throughout the day.
Carl was predeceased by his parents; his sister, Doris Murdock; his brother, William C. Murdock; and his first wife, Ferne Murdock.
He is survived by his second wife, Ione Murdock of Marion; sons, Cal (Susan) Murdock of Des Moines and Doug (Kristi) Murdock of Toddville; stepsons, Tom (Brenda) Mehlert of Phoenix, Ariz., and Marty Mehlert of Muscatine; stepgranchildren, Shawn Mehlert, Jennifer (Brandon) Howard and Isabelle (Enrique) Lopez; nieces, Kim (Mike) Burrell, Cindy (Mark) Roop and Jeanne (Arlyn) Tolzmann; nephew, Kenn (Pat) Mingus; and many much loved great-nieces and nephews.
The family thanks members of the St. Luke's Palliative Care program, the Rev. Perry Fruhling and the chaplains from St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Dr. James Boddicker and the staff at The Villages of Marion.
A memorial service celebrating Carl's life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 3, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories with the Rev. Arlyn Tolzmann and the Rev. Perry Fruhling officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Marion in Carl's memory or to a charity of your choice.
